Radiesse™ Injections

Radiesse is the newest non-surgical facial filler that delivers immediate, longer lasting results.

Details

Whether you’re longing to reverse the signs of aging or address a health issue that would normally require invasive surgery, Radiesse™ gives you options. Developed with safety and longevity in mind, it is a new generation injectable filler that offers superior versatility for both cosmetic and reconstructive use without surgery. The unique composition of Radiesse not only provides immediate visual improvement, but the benefit of long-lasting effect. This is because Radiesse is made of very tiny, smooth calcium hydroxyl apatite (CaHA) microspheres. These particles form a scaffold through which your body’s own collagen grows, thereby producing long-term results. These unique advantages make Radiesse an ideal choice for facial shaping and contouring, along with other therapeutic applications.

Procedure

After a thorough cleansing of the area to be treated, Radiesse will be injected under the skin in a continuous stream through a very fine needle into the appropriate facial planes needed for augmentation and contouring.

Anesthesia: You may require a topical or injectable anesthetic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does it hurt?

A. Patient reactions vary, so injections of any filler may be accompanied by either a topical or injectable anesthetic.

Q. How long will Radiesse™ last?

A. In facial applications, Radiesse should provide a correction that lasts one to two years with an occasional touch up. Individual results may vary, affected by age, metabolism, skin type, lifestyle and muscle activity.

Q. How quickly can I return to my normal activities?

A. Approximately 24 hours following injection of Radiesse, most swelling or redness will have subsided. Some patients return to work immediately while others may need 24 hours.

Q. Is Radiesse permanent?

A. No. The gel carrier dissipates over a few months allowing for new tissue infiltration. The CaHA particles gradually break down and are metabolized over two to three years.

Q. Will Radiesse become hard or noticeable to touch?

A. No, Radiesse will remain soft and pliable and will take on the characteristics of the surrounding soft tissue.

Q. Will I need a skin test?

A. No pre-testing is required due to Radiesse’s unique synthetic product formulation.

Q. What is Radiesse composed of?

A. Radiesse is composed of synthetic calcium hydroxyl apatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. CaHA is a bio-material, the primary mineral constituent of bone and teeth. It has over twenty years of use in orthopedics, neurosurgery, dentistry and ophthalmology. The semi-solid nature of Radiesse is created by suspending CaHA in a common water based carrier.

Q. How many treatments will I require?

A. Some patients may achieve an optimal correction on their first injection. For other patients, variability in the rate of tissue in-growth may require a touch-up to achieve optimal correction.

Q. Are there any side effects?

A. There are few reported side effects. However, some common injection-related reactions may occur, such as edema, swelling, pain, itching, discoloration, and tenderness at the injection site.

Q. What if I am taking medication?

A. Radiesse should not be implanted in patients while on an aspirin regimen or while taking other medications that could inhibit the healing process. Please consult Dr. Patterson for more information.

Q. Can Radiesse be injected over other implants?

A. Radiesse should not be implanted in patients with other implants or materials still in place.

Q. Is Radiesse approved?

A. Yes, Radiesse is approved for use in the U.S., Europe, Canada and various other countries.
